Consultant actuaries English Matthews Brockman has joined forces with Microsoft to implement Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) into its pricing software product, Emblem.

Emblem is a tool for pricing personal lines insurance, using historic data to predict customer behavioural buying patterns and to assess their insurance risk.

Partner Karl Murphy said: "The decision to incorporate Microsoft VBA into Emblem reflected a desire to make it as flexible and accessible as possible, especially to underwriters and actuaries."

The package enables insurers to understand individual risks at a more quickly and at a greater level of detail.

VBA enables users to customise Emblem to their own requirements.

Emblem, which went live in 1998, has already sold more than 18 licences and is in use in 12 countries.
