Equifax has launched a Pre-Mover service to enable insurers to identify homeowners before they move house.

According to Equifax, around 60% of movers will buy new home and building insurance policies when they move, making them a prime market for insurers looking to gain new customers and retain existing ones.

The Pre-Mover service uses data based on `For Sale' and `Sold' signs placed outside properties on the market. By matching this data with a companies' customer database, Equifax said it could identify those customers who were about to move.

The insurer would then be reach customers at a time when they might be considering a change of provider, said Equifax market development director, Graham Arrowsmith.
