Police operation and TRACKER help uncover vehicles

Esure has recovered over £65,000 worth of stolen vehicles thanks to Operation Semita.

The scheme, launched earlier this year in a joint collaboration between TRACKER, the UK’s leading stolen vehicle recovery provider and the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (AVCIS), aims to fight vehicle crime and help recover the growing number of stolen vehicles that have had theft claims settled against them.

“The initiative uses TRACKER technology to locate stolen vehicles that have not had their tracking technology activated at the time of the theft. This can be down to the fact the owner of a vehicle may not realise that a previous owner has fitted a TRACKER, so has not taken out a subscription for the service,” said Bill Raynal, Managing Director for TRACKER. “esure is just one insurance company that is reaping the benefits. The recovery of a Mercedes SLK55 and Audi A4 allowed esure to reclaim their assets and sell the vehicles on.”

Andy Nixon, claims fraud co-ordinator from esure, said: “It had been months since these vehicles were stolen and we had already paid out the claims as the likelihood of recovery was very slim, but once the TRACKER device was activated it was amazing how quickly the cars were found. It has proved a successful scheme for esure and working with TRACKER has allowed us to recover assets that would otherwise have been written off.”

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hooper, Head of AVCIS said: “Operation Semita is already proving itself to be an important weapon in the fight against vehicle crime, closing the net on thieves and organised criminals. In addition to recovering more stolen vehicles than ever, we have been able to work with TRACKER and insurers to detect potentially fraudulent claims, making it a win-win situation for all involved.”
