Mark Wilson could win race for chief executive role

Mark Wilson, the former chief executive of AIG-owned life insurer AIA, is another name tipped for the top job at Aviva, the Financial Times reports.

Citing sources familiar with the matter the paper said Wilson, who worked at the Asian life insurance group between 2006 and 2010, was in the running to fill the role vacated by Andrew Moss in May.

The news follows the revelation by Insurance Times last week that there are three potential candidates for the Aviva chief executive role: two external and one internal.

The other external candidate is understood to be Prudential chief financial officer Nic Nicandrou, who once served as Aviva’s deputy finance director.

The internal candidate is understood to be current Aviva chief financial officer Pat Regan.

Aviva has been run by executive chairman John McFarlane (pictured) since Moss’s departure, following a shareholder revolt over pay.

Before running AIA, Wilson spent 18 years at AXA’s Asia-Pacific business.
