AIG is thought to be one of the insurers handling claims after a fire raged through Pinewood film studios and destroyed the latest James Bond stage, according to sources.

Cunningham Lindsay may be appointed to assess the loss.

It has not been confirmed how much the damage is estimated to cost. The roof covering the stage, which was housing film sets for Casino Royale, caved in because of the blaze.

The stage was originally built for the 1977 Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me and the building was rebuilt after a fire in 1984.

AIG was unavailable for comment.
