RAC's former chief executive Debbie Hewitt is one of a trio of industry leaders advising private equity firms in their bids for RAC.

The Aviva-owned roadside rescue company is being chased by private equity firms Clayton Dubilier & Rice, BC Partners and Carlyle, the Telegraph has reported. It said a £900m sale could be reached before June 17.

Hewitt, of Hough, is advising Carlyle on its next steps.

BC Partners is working alongside Jon Walden, the former chief executive of Lloyds-owned LEX, which was the UK's biggest car leasing company.

CD&R, which recently brought in ex-Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy to be an operating partner, is working with Bob Mackenzie, the former chairman of PHS, the cleaning support services group.

Insurance Times, which revealed Aviva was selling RAC in March, recently reported that broking group Brightside and former AXA UK chief executive Mark Wood are also in talks with consortiums.
