Poll shows gender split on European court ruling

Just 22% of females believe the proposed rise in women’s car insurance prices resulting from yesterday’s European Court of Justice judgement is fair,a new survey shows.

The poll, of 1,372 drivers, carried out voucher code website, www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, also shows that 78% of women motorists described the ruling is ‘unfair.’

And according to the survey, 63% of women said they believed men should pay more as ‘they cause most of the accidents on the road’.

However the same poll shows that 74% of men believe the ruling, which prohibits insurers from using differences between men and women as a risk factor when pricing insurance policies, is fair.

MyVoucherCodes.co.uk chairman Mark Pearson said: “As somebody that works hard to secure discounts for users, I’m conflicted. On one hand, you could argue that it’s unfair and discriminatory for men to pay higher premiums, whilst on the other; this ruling now means huge rises for women, who may not have budgeted for them and may therefore not be able to afford them.”

“This poll shows a clear difference between the way Britons see the ruling, with the majority of men having had to compensate for poor drivers for years, now.”
