Equifax
Chris Cawthorn is appointed European director for Knowledge Engineering at Equifax. He was previously the head of strategic weather services in the United States of America. Based in London, Cawthorn will work with clients in the finance, retail and telecommunication sectors to help them mine the intelligence out of their customer databases.

INSURERS
Independent Insurance
Steve Swift is appointed sales inspector at the Reading branch office of Independent Insurance. He joins the company from Agricultural Insurance Underwriting Agencies, where he was its area development manager.

ERC Frankona
Wayne Lewis has joined ERC Frankona as an executive responsible for finance and actuarial teams. In addition, he will set the financial strategy, planning and controls for the insurer. He was previously at Churchill Insurance.

ACE
Greg Lunn is appointed legal counsel for Ace Europe and ACE Global markets. He was previously the Counsel-Special Projects for ACE Limited in Bermuda.

Chaucer Syndicates Limited
Philip Graham is appointed international reinsurance underwriter of Syndicate 1084, Chaucer Syndicates Limited. He joins from ACE International, where he was worldwide marine underwriter. He brings ten years international marine experience to his present position.

Oak Underwriting
James Guthrie joins the newly-formed high net worth specialists Oak Underwriting as agency development manager. He was most recently with Miles Smith, where he was responsible for wholesale development but, prior to this, spent 14 years with Holmans, where he was responsible for developing agents' accounts in East Anglia and Northern Ireland.

BROKERS
RE Hutt & Company
Matthew Finch is promoted to the newly-created post of business development director at RE Hutt & Company following his qualification as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. He joined RE Hutt in 1998 when it acquired the firm he was working with, Brian Knight & Co in Coventry.

Aon Group Limited
Bob Floate is appointed as a director audits and inspections, at the Aon Group Limited Claims Consultancy (AGLCC). He will be responsible for the specialty claims audit and inspection team.

LAWYERS
Norton Rose
Marie Ross is appointed to partner in the insurance division of Norton Rose. The division now has 12 partners and 19 assistants. Ross joined Norton Rose as a trainee solicitor in 1989 and qualifies in 1991. She is a corporate finance lawyer, specialising in the insurance and financial services sectors. Her experience includes mergers and acquisitions, capital raising and restructuring, demutualisation, floatations and advising on the establishment, regulation, sale and purchase of insurance business in the UK and Europe.

Lovells
David Sullivan joins Lovells as a lawyer. He is a highly regarded specialist in the insurance finance and alternative risk transfer. He will work with Lovell's existing specialists in this field in the UK, the USA and France.

OTHER
Universal Salvage
Anne Thomas is appointed company secretary by Universal Salvage. She was previously with Walker Greenbank. She will be primarily responsible for environmental, but will also take charge of legal matters, Stock Exchange compliance, health and safety, employment and personnel, pensions and insurance for the group.

Insurance Database Services Limited
Graham Johnston, from AXA Insurance, is elected the new chairman of Insurance Database Services Limited (IDSL) which runs the claims and underwriting exchange (CUE). The CUE database currently holds details of household and motor claims made over the past five years and is an increasingly valuable tool for insurers to identify multiple claims.

Joslin Rowe Associates
Three new consultants have joined recruitment specialists Joslin Rowe Associates. Richard Cowan will specialise in placing technical services and support staff within the life and pensions market. Cressida Wilkie will concentrate on broker appointments. Ross Wintle will also concentrate on the broker market.

BT RedCARE
James Winter is appointed fire sector manager at BT RedCARE. He was previously at the Loss Prevention Council, where his responsibilities included promoting loss prevention to governments, insurers, specifiers and installers both in the UK and overseas.

Drive & Survive
Stewart Scoble is appointed sales and marketing director at Drive & Survive. He was formerly head of indirect sales at the company. He will now oversee an expanded sales and account management team.
