Business transacted by the Chartered Insurance Institute's (CII) website has reached £250,000 in the first quarter of 2001.

The number of hits to the website has reached an average of 550,000 a week, from 120 countries.

Online ecommerce facilities offered by the CII include examination entries, membership applications, study option orders and course registrations.

Business development manager Tim Murray, said the next step for the CII would be to introduce online learning and, where possible, online exams.

“A total web-based training and exam solution is not far away. We are also being approached by organisations that want to advertise on the CII site and expect to launch the first banner adverts on the home page in the very near future.”

The first CII website was launched three years ago.
