Lloyd's broker Howden has moved into the international property insurance market after poaching staff from reinsurance broker PWS and Aon.

Howden chief executive, Tim Coles, told Insurance Times: "We like to dominate every market we go into, and we aim to be the number one or two broker in international commercial property."

The broker has appointed Philip Bond, former managing director of worldwide property at specialist reinsurance broker PWS, to lead the unit.

Neil Holden, Paul Foster and John Penney have also joined Bond's team from PWS. Howden has also appointed Karly Shaw, Lucy Waller and Hannah King from Aon.

As well as targeting UK commercial property business, Coles said Howden would look to grow in areas plagued by catastrophic perils, such as India.

' Howden UK has created a professional indemnity scheme for clients operating under UKAS accreditation, such as calibration laboratories.

Matthew Reed, a director at Howden UK, said: "Developing these tailored schemes provides insurers with access to potentially profitable new lines of revenue."
