With the UK on the brink of recession, insurers are looking for ways to encourage people to splash their cash on insurance.

Ecclesiastical, renowned for its connection with church insurance, is hoping to earn a few extra pounds with a “credit crunch-friendly” wedding policy.

“Couples may be forced to scale back their celebrations and insurance may be one of the expenses they choose to cut,” says Darren Mabley Jones, wedding insurance manager at Ecclesiastical.

This would be unwise, however, according to the insurer. If you’re spending thousands on your special day, you need to be sure the investment is protected – not to mention the toasters and the fish knives.

Presumably the company hopes £30 is a low enough price to entice brides-to-be. So for credit crunch-friendly, read cheap.
