Senior insurance experts to participate in programme to promote financial stability

The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has announced a new education project to enhance supervisors’ knowledge of insurance regulation and supervision.

This project forms an important part of the IAIS standard implementation road map and work plans.

The IAIS will reach out to emerging markets with the objective to harmonise insurance supervisory regimes and promote financial stability. Education will be provided through both interactive e-learning and practical training in the principal areas of insurance supervision.

The education project will officially be launched in Beijing on 15 January 2008 by the chair of the IAIS Executive Committee, Michel Flamée.

The launch will follow a two-day programme that will include pilot training for supervisors from Asian jurisdictions and panels focusing on strengthening supervision in insurance markets.

Senior supervisors, leaders from the international insurance industry and academics are expected to participate.

Manuel Aguilera, Chair of the Implementation Committee, said: “The education project will provide the necessary platform for the effective delivery of the Core Curriculum for Insurance Supervisors developed by the IAIS in cooperation with the World Bank.

“[It] will include e-learning-based interactive modules that are expected to improve the understanding of principles and standards and thereby increase observance levels.”

The initiative will be supported by voluntary financial contributions and expertise from IAIS Members and observers and international organisations.
