One of the many things the UK is famed for pioneering is the steam engine.

However, these days the industry is largely confined to heritage railways serving the leisure sector.

Now a little extra puff has been given to the industry by Bland Bankart, which has developed an "iron-clad" insurance scheme to protect the modern-day enthusiasts of travel by steam.

The scheme is designed to handle the many faces of heritage railway – from Thomas the Tank Engine theme rides to trips on the original Flying Scotsman.

"Heritage railways have diverse activities, from driver training to sub contract engineering and country farm parks," said Bland Bankart's Andy Jacques. "In the past it was difficult to arrange cover at a reasonable price."
