Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) has named Dominic Burke as group chief executive with immediate effect.

His appointment follows the announcement last week that JLT would search for a chief executive to replace executive chairman Ken Carter before the end of 2006.

As a result of Burke's appointment, he has stood down as the group's chief operating officer.

Carter said: "We conducted...a rigorous internal and external selection procedure which has resulted in the appointment of Dominic Burke as group chief executive."

JLT has also said that Ken Carter will relinquish his role as executive chairman with immediate effect but remain chairman until the group's AGM in April 2006, when he will also retire from the board.

It is intended that Geoffrey Howe, currently joint deputy chairman and senior independent director will become chairman.

JLT Group said that Mike Hammond, chief executive of JLT Risk Solutions, has resigned from the group with effect from 30 November 2005. Dominic Collins, chairman of JLT Risk Solutions, has assumed executive responsibility for that business.
