Lloyd's has opened an office on the west coast of the US in a move to develop its business in the region.

The Los Angeles-based office would have the primary target of enhancing Lloyd's trading platform in California, Oregon, Washington and Arizona, it said. It will also work to strengthen relationships with brokers, clients and reinsurance buyers.

Lloyd's already has offices in New York, Chicago and Kentucky.

Tony Joseph would lead the new office and serve as senior vice president of Lloyd's America, it said. He will report directly to Lloyd's America president Wendy Baker.

Prior to his appointment, Joseph was senior vice president at Guy Carpenter & Company in California, where he headed up a team of seven, working mainly on property, general casualty, and professional indemnity lines of reinsurance.

Baker said: “The opening of a Lloyd's office on the west coast demonstrates our strong commitment to serve the American market, to strengthen our relationships with brokers and clients and to grow our business in the US.

“Tony brings outstanding skills and experience on both the insurance and reinsurance sides, with a long track record of working with Lloyd's and the London market. We are delighted to welcome him to the team.”
