While most of us have been basking in the summer sun, the scorching temperatures are proving to be a bit of a headache for Lloyd's.

The corporation was all set to "bring a chill to the City" on Monday, but its grand plan to highlight the dangers of climate change all but melted away, after the unveiling of a giant ice globe in the City had to be abandoned.

A spokesman confirmed: "Due to the extreme weather generated by the current heatwave and the forecast to continue into this week, we were concerned about the potential stability of the structure.

"Unfortunately, after assessing the conditions to build the globe on Sunday, we decided not to proceed."

Backchat is somewhat relieved as there were doubts if Lloyd's own insurance would have covered injury by a crumbling giant ice cube, or the subsequent flooding of the Square Mile.
