Marsh has appointed John Nicholson as chief operating officer of Marsh UK and Chris Lay will assume responsibility for the national business, providing risk management and insurance support to individuals, consumer groups and regionally based companies.

Commenting on the appointments, Martin South, UK chief executive officer said: “Marsh intends to grow. This imperative rests on understanding our clients' risk issues and building our relationships with them as their trusted risk advisor. In order to allow our sales and client executives to focus on growth, we wish to increasingly centralise our business processes and John will be working very closely with me to make this happen. John is a highly experienced insurance industry executive who understands what clients expect from us and also has an excellent track record in getting change delivered.

Nicholson commented: “Marsh is the world's pre-eminent insurance broker and risk advisor. To sustain our leadership position, we need to use our wide-ranging content and market reach to enable our clients to find opportunities in an increasingly sophisticated risk environment. The establishment of a project management office is a key part of our strategy to bring all our resources together for the benefit of clients.”
