Alastair Burns assumes role as head of affinity development and client management

Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk adviser, has appointed Alastair Burns as head of affinity development and client management, a part of its Global ConsumerConnexions UK team. He was previously head of the company’s Private Equity and M&A Practice in the UK. He will report to Mike Melling, chief executive of Marsh ConsumerConnexions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Burns said: “Affinity business is a key priority for Marsh in the UK as there is substantial opportunity to develop the range of services we can offer over every level of our client base. As economic conditions worsen, consumer brands are looking to develop ways to keep customers loyal. The range of products that companies can offer is increasing and becoming more cost-effective. Marsh is the leader at developing innovative insurance-related offerings and I look forward to working on these with our clients.”

Melling said: “Alastair’s experience in the fast-paced world of private equity will be invaluable as he leads product innovation, business development and client relationship management for all affinity and employee benefits businesses in the UK.

“Alastair will also lead our drive into new business lines for associations, such as university student and alumni groups as well as charity member programmes. His track record of acquiring and building strong relationships with key client segments, combined with his team leadership skills and strong business acumen, will be central to realising the UK Consumer growth opportunity.”
