Personal accident and life insurance cover on the table

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has put out a tender for personal accident and life insurance to cover members of the army, navy and air force, their families, reserve forces and ex-servicemen.

The tender was put out by the Defence Equipment and Support arm of the MoD, which wants a replacement for its current scheme.

The MoD wants offers for either personal accident, life insurance or both. There could be five or six private sector providers in total.

The contracts will run for four years, and the MoD could extend either by blocks of two years up, to a total of eight years.

The tender was put out in early April and will close this week.
