Women's online motor insurance provider girlmotor.com has reported a surge in growth for its first year of operation, as more and more women log on to the internet.

The website, which is currently signing on about 300 new female customers per month, expects new business to grow to 1,500 policies per month by the summer.

In a statement, the website said this growth was consistent with recent figures from the Office of National Statistics, which showed that the number of women using the internet rose by 12% last year.

Girlmotor.com specialises in women's motor insurance. A division of Hyperformance, it accounts for roughly one third of that company's total online business.

Hyperformance consists of the e-commerce business ventures of the Allen & Allen group.

Girlmotor.com managing director David Harlow said the number of women logging on to both girlmotor.com and InsureYourMotor.com, another Hyperformance website, had risen consistently month-on-month.

"It is a market that continues to have enormous untapped potential and the fact we are offering a dedicated product through girlmotor.com places us in a pole position in the online insurance market," he said.
