The Art Loss Register worked with the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) to investigate the pre-1935 ownership of a seascape by Dutch artist Ludolf Backhuysen that the DIA had purchased two years ago. They discovered it has been the property of a Jewish art collector who was forced to turn over his assets to the Nazis, enabling the DIA to compensate the collector's heirs.
