Legal & General has appointed Jane Dale as managing director of its general insurance operations from 1 July 2005.

Dale takes over the role, subject to FSA approval, from Ian Viney, who has accepted the opportunity to return to run Legal & General's life insurance joint venture in Egypt, the company said.

Dale's successor as managing director of group risk is Simon Gadd.
