Wise, the industry-owned organisation for global ecommerce, has begun pilot testing for new standards which it hopes will encourage cross-market co-operation.

Through the Joint Venture (JV), an international initiative to develop edifact message standards for the reinsurance and large-risk commercial insurance industry, WISe has published XML versions of its standards and has migrated its underlying business standards definitions into a new interactive data dictionary software tool.

XML standards are being developed to make the exchange of information between trading partners easier and to avoid the need for re-keying.

WISe says that with the advance of web technology, the JV partners realised it was essential to make their standards available in both XML and edifact formats.

The group adds that because the data dictionary also maps business data to both edifact and XML, it will help developers design software that allows exchanges between applications using current and future standards.
