The specialist insurer has ‘seen a shift in the bike sector from ownership to leasing’, says chief executive

Specialist cycling insurer Bikmo has partnered with e-bike leasing firm Blike to provide a flexible commercial fleet insurance programme for all of Blike’s leased vehicles.

Blike currently offers London-based commuters a cycle-to-work scheme that allows employers to provide employees with reduced costs via salary sacrifice payments – the monthly fee also includes bike maintenance, the option to change bikes and now insurance from Bikmo.

The specifically tailored product from Bikmo includes cover for theft, accidental damage and vandalism throughout the lease, both at the customer’s home and while cycling.

Blike said that Bikmo’s commercial fleet solution suited their firm due to scalability – Bikmo can add or remove bikes from cover as they are leased or returned to Blike’s centre of operations, creating cost efficiencies for Blike.

Bikmo chief executive David George explained: ”We’ve seen a shift in the bike sector from ownership to leasing and subscriptions coming for years, so it’s fantastic to be working alongside Blike as a leader in this space.

“It’s the next step in our mission to protect the world’s riders so we’re delighted to be protecting Blike customers and hopefully inspiring a new generation of riders to choose bike over car.”

Blike’s chief executive and cofounder Tim Carrigan added: “Working with Bikmo was the obvious choice from the outset as they share our vision of supporting as many riders as possible across the UK.

“By protecting our fleet, Bikmo ensures that our riders feel confident and means we can keep them on the road and riding for longer.”
