Matt Harlin, managing director at Brunel Insurance Brokers, outlines why he believes his firm should take home gold in the Commercial Lines Broker of the Year category at 2025’s Insurance Times Awards
1. Why did you decide to enter the Commercial Lines Broker of the Year category?
We entered the Commercial Lines Broker of the Year category to showcase the significant progress we have made in sustainable growth, operational excellence and client service over the past year.

With multiple new offices, strong financial performance, enhanced compliance standards and consistently high client retention, we believe our results showcase a broker that is growing responsibly – while also maintaining exceptional quality.
This category allows us to highlight the dedication of our regional teams, our commitment to community focused service and the strength of our national model – all of which set us apart in a competitive market.
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why do you think your firm should win this award?
Our entry stands out because we have managed to grow quickly and keep our service levels high, which is not easy in the current market.
We’ve opened new offices, taken on an acquisition, boosted our compliance standards and delivered strong new business performance, all while keeping clients happy and retaining over 90% of them.
We should win because we are proving that you can expand, stay local and still do things properly.
Our teams genuinely care about their communities and our results show that our approach works. It has been a big year for us and we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
Winning this award would mean a great deal to us as a team. It would be a real acknowledgement of the hard work everyone has put in during a year of big growth, big change and consistently high standards.
Our teams across the regions have gone above and beyond for clients, often in challenging market conditions, and this recognition would reinforce that their efforts genuinely make a difference.
It would also give our newer offices a huge boost, showing that our community focused, people first approach is working. Overall, it would be a proud moment and a milestone for the whole firm.
