’This partnership is about tackling a real and very personal issue for many people affected by cancer – finding travel insurance that feels accessible, fair and appropriate to their circumstances,’ says head of charities and partnerships

Tifgroup-owned Lighthouse Travel Insurance has launched a new partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to help people living with cancer find more accessible specialist travel insurance.

Through the partnership, people visiting Macmillan’s website will be able to access Lighthouse, which brings together a range of specialist travel insurance brands including Insurancewith, Holidaysafe, Alpha and Dogtag.

The distribution and comparison platform uses medical screening technology, Protectif, to help assess medical risk.

For customers whose circumstances require additional support, Lighthouse also provides access to a human-led medical risk assessment, helping people who may otherwise struggle to find suitable cover through standard online journeys.

Michael Stickland, director of corporate partnerships and philanthropy at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: ”Travel insurance for people with a lived experience of cancer should be accessible, not a daunting prospect.

“Our partnership with Lighthouse and their Protectif system is a game changer. By assessing individual health management, we’re helping make sure a holiday is within reach for more people. This is an exciting new step for partnership working and we’re so grateful to the team at Lighthouse for everything they’re doing to make this possible.”

A ’real and personal’ issue

The partnership will also give customers without cancer the opportunity to buy travel insurance, with the charity getting commission on policies sold via the distribution and comparison platform.

One of Tifgroup’s specialist travel brands, Insurancewith, was founded by Fiona Macrae after her own experience of trying to find affordable travel insurance following a cancer diagnosis.

Macrae said: “I’m incredibly proud that Lighthouse is partnering with Macmillan.

”This partnership is about tackling a real and very personal issue for many people affected by cancer – finding travel insurance that feels accessible, fair and appropriate to their circumstances. Insurancewith was created after I struggled to find affordable cover following my own cancer diagnosis.

”I know how upsetting and frustrating that experience can be. Holidays, travel and time away with family can play such an important role in recovery and wellbeing, so it is vital that people affected by cancer are given clear, supportive routes to explore cover. Macmillan does extraordinary work for people living with cancer and we are delighted that this partnership can both support that work and help more people access specialist travel insurance.”
