He spent fourteen years at Aviva in various roles

MS Amlin has appointed Rob Houghton as its new chief operating officer.

The role is subject to regulatory approval. He will replace Simon Smith who departed earlier this year to pursue other opportunities.

High-profile experience

Houghton was previously at the Post Office working as chief operating officer having joined in 2016 as chief information officer and change director.

He spent fourteen years at Aviva in a range of roles including UK chief information officer, north American chief information officer and global solutions delivery director.

MS Amlin chief executive, Simon Beale, said: “He brings unrivalled experience and a strong track record of leading a number of successful strategic initiatives across an impressive career spanning more than three decades. His breadth of leadership experience and expertise, both inside and outside the financial services sector, will bring the best of both worlds to MS Amlin and add additional strength to our executive team.

“Rob is extremely well-placed to help drive MS Amlin’s long-term strategy as we continue to focus on repositioning the business for a sustainable and profitable future. We look forward to him joining the team.”

Houghton will join the firm in mid-October and form part of the executive team reporting to Beale.
