’For us, it’s very much about the talent pipeline within the insurance industry and attracting new talent into the industry,’ says head

SSP has signed the Insurance Times Destination Charter, with head of people and culture Sarah Fallows saying the initiative aligns closely with the business’ existing work around talent development and outreach.

Speaking to Insurance Times at the 2026 Biba Conference, Fallows said the decision to sign the charter was driven by a desire to help strengthen the insurance industry’s talent pipeline and attract more people into the sector.

She said: “For us, it’s very much about the talent pipeline within the insurance industry and attracting new talent into the industry.

“We already do quite a lot in terms of outreach.”

Fallows pointed to SSP’s work with secondary schools, as well as apprenticeship initiatives and careers engagement activity already taking place across the business.

“We’ve got the outreach programme for secondary schools and one of our management team is an adviser at one of those schools,” she said.

“So we do quite a lot already in terms of reaching the younger generation, apprenticeships and all that kind of stuff.”

Building the next generation

The Insurance Times Destination Charter was launched to encourage firms across the insurance sector to improve awareness of careers in the market, support inclusion initiatives and help attract and retain talent.

Asked whether more firms should be doing more to bring new people into insurance, Fallows said approaches would differ depending on the organisation.

“Ultimately companies will do what best works for them,” she said. “I’d always encourage companies to go down that route, but with the awareness that it doesn’t always work for everybody. We’re fortunate it does, so we can continue to press down that route.”

Looking ahead, Fallows said SSP would continue building on its existing outreach and apprenticeship programmes, while also focusing on internal career progression and skills development.

“There’s got to be a focus on growth within the company, as well as bringing new people into the industry” she added.
