‘Mental health isn’t a topic we want to shy away from and this is our way of making that commitment visible,’ says HR director

Loss adjuster Woodgate and Clark has become the first major UK loss adjusting firm to sign the Mindful Employer Charter, committing to support employees’ mental health and wellbeing.

The charter, established in 2004 and run by Devon Partnership NHS Trust, is a voluntary initiative that encourages employers to provide proactive support for staff experiencing mental health challenges and to promote fair and inclusive recruitment practices.

By signing the charter, Woodgate and Clark has pledged to support employees without judgement, equip managers to have effective conversations around mental health and ensure applicants and staff are not disadvantaged because of their mental health history.

The business said the commitment builds on its existing wellbeing programme, which includes employee assistance services, private healthcare, financial wellbeing support, monthly wellbeing webinars and dedicated support sessions.

HR director Claire Fisk said signing the charter was a public demonstration of the firm’s existing approach to employee wellbeing.

“Mental health isn’t a topic we want to shy away from and this is our way of making that commitment visible

“By signing the ‘Charter for Employers Positive About Mental Health’, Woodgate and Clark has made a public statement of our commitment to supporting the mental health of our team,” she said.

Wellbeing commitment

Fisk said that the company hoped its decision would encourage other firms in the loss adjusting sector to make similar commitments.

“The charter reflects something we already believe – people tend do their best work when they feel genuinely supported,” she added.

“We hope that by being the first major loss adjuster to sign this Charter, we can encourage others to follow.”

Woodgate and Clark joins a growing number of organisations across the public and private sectors that have signed the Mindful Employer Charter as awareness of workplace mental health continues to increase.
