Claims go up as ghouls take over.

With Hallowe’en and Guy Fawkes night darkening our doorsteps, insurers should beware. Not of ghouls, guys and witches, mind, but of personal injury claims, warns Defaqto.

It seems driveways may be potential trip hazards, those sweet treats may contain nuts and, as for apple bobbing, well, there’s definitely a risk of drowning.

And the burning effigy of the traitorous Jacobean presents a frightful danger should he become unseated from his fiery perch.

“At this spooky time of year, parents could choose to sue because their child tripped up a driveway, injured themselves watching fireworks or suffered an allergic reaction when eating homemade treats,” says Mike Powell, principal consultant at Defaqto.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
