Willis group director George Nixon has been nominated chairman-elect of Biba..

He will succeed current chairman Simon Bolam next July, subject to formal confirmation by Biba's board.

Bolam endorsed the appointment, saying Nixon would play a vital role in the introduction of the GISC next year: "George Nixon has vast experience of the industry and I know that he will bring great benefits to Biba and to the very important issues that surround self-regulation of the general insurance industry."

Nixon, 59, has been with Willis for 34 years, rising to the position of director. He is responsible for the broker group's worldwide knowledge management initiative and Willis global risk solutions. Nixon also has extensive links in the insurance industry as director of Wise, the insurance industry's electronic trading initiative, and is vice-president of the Insurance Institute of London.

He said he was looking forward to his new role and intended being an active chairman.
