Measures to ensure the safety of children and teachers taking part in organised school trips will be discussed at a summit of public sector risk management experts on 7 and 8 November.

Last week, the government issued revised guidelines for those involved in arranging and running school trips following the death of more than 20 youngsters and two adults on such school outings in the last five years.

ALARM - the National Forum for Risk Management in the Public Sector - is currently devising its own best practice advice paper for organisers of school trips.

And at ALARM South East's regional conference in November, members will discuss measures aimed at reducing the risks for children and adults alike.

Steve West and Debbie Millin, from ACE, will lead discussions about risks involved in school trips and how to manage those risks at the ALARM SE 2002 Conference, which takes place the Latimer Conference Centre in Buckinghamshire.
