A caring computer has been created to help soothe call centre staff suffering from stress.

Dubbed Angelo, the “guardian angel” computer can detect stress among staff. The computer was created by researchers at Telecom Italia and shown at the Institute of Physics in London last week.

The computer monitors the operator's heart beat through an ear-piece and the amount of sweat using electrodes on the skin.

If Angelo concludes the individual is suffering from stress, it takes action, such as adjusting the room temperature or ventilation, reducing the number of incoming calls or warning the employee to take a break.
