Independent broker Opus Holdings has launched a new business unit to provide bespoke insurance solutions and manage risks for the global breeding, racing and rearing community.

Called Opus Bloodstock, the first product will be called Opus Sport Horse, and will be launched at the 2000 Opus Aldon Horse Trials.

"The racing industry is the fifth biggest employer in the UK and boasts a turnover well in excess of a billion pounds," said account manager Ian Wilkins. "Valuable flat-racing horses are worth up to £15million and top stallions up to £50m. Opus is committed to developing a range of services for this valuable commodity sector."

Opus was established following a management buy-out from the Heath Group. It has 16 regional offices.
