Oxfordshire County Council is to negotiate its own insurance cover, which is valued at up to £2m.

Oxfordshire County Council has put out a call to tender for its entire book of insurance cover.

The combined premium value of the cover is between £1.5m to £2m.

A spokeswoman said that the council would negotiate its own insurance cover. She said: "We used to use brokers but we feel that we can save a lot of time and money by negotiating the cover ourselves.

"A lot of the major insurers are also not interested in the local municipal risks and as a result the major brokers find it difficult to place such risks."

The council is looking for cover for:

  • Accident insurance
  • All-risk insurance cover
  • Contractor's all-risk insurance cover
  • Motor vehicle insurance cover
  • Loss insurance services
  • Fire and special perils insurance cover
  • Property insurance cover including business interruption and terrorism.
  • Weather related insurance cover
  • Engineering insurance cover
  • General liability insurance cover
