Irish police have been asked to investigate a case in which a youth claiming IR£30,000 (£23,707) damages for a fall in a restaurant toilet had apparently been caught setting up the accident on a security video.

The damages claim was withdrawn at Galway Circuit Court on 23 November, after news of the video evidence emerged. But fast food chain Supermacs managing director Patrick McDonagh said he was passing the tape to the police, as 47 other outlets were also facing damages claims and the company's insurance premiums had risen by 300% in the past three years.

The video is understood to show three youths splashing water on to the toilet floor, before practising a fall. One then throws himself on the floor. The others fetch the manager and an ambulance. The `injured' youth is fitted with a neck brace before being taken to hospital.
