Beaten to the top group post by ex-Aviva Tidjane Thiam

Former Lloyd’s boss Nick Prettejohn has quit as chief executive of the Prudential’s UK arm after being pipped to the group’s top job by former Aviva European boss and FD Tidjane Thiam.

Thiam will become the first black chief executive to lead a FTSE 100 company.

Prettejohn will leave in September.

Prudential would not say yesterday whether Mr Prettejohn had another job, but said that he believed he had completed the turnaround of the UK concern.
