Police to provide witness statement training for IFIG members

QBE has formed a partnership with the Insurance Fraud Investigators Group (IFIG) and the City of London Police to provide witness statement training for IFIG members.

The half-day course has been designed to provide delegates with the skills required to take and report evidential witness statements.

Delivered by the City of London Police, the course will focus on explaining the legal framework covering written witness statements, the elements of the five-part statement structure, how to handle exhibits and evidence and the conditions for the use of Hearsay evidence.

Matthew Crane, managing director of the motor division of QBE European operations, said: “QBE is committed to combating fraud and fully supports the work of IFIG. We believe it is in the best interests of the insurance industry as a whole to improve the required skills needed to tackle fraud and we look forward to further partnerships with both IFIG and the City of London Police.”

Peter Upton, chairman of IFIG, said: “IFIG is a members’ organisation dedicated to offering training to its members in addition to its core activities around the sharing of Intelligence. We rely heavily on the support of member organisations in facilitating training events, and are grateful to QBE for their assistance with this project”
