Surely what it needs is for insurers to be tougher on 3rd party claims and not only on whiplash claims.

For many years I've been shaking my head at the insurer mentality, "Oh it's cheaper to pay this claim than to resist it, even though we think we are right." I've lost count of the number of times I've heard a Solicitor tell me that insurers are a soft target.

It's past time for insurers to get tough. I've seen examples of the effect of getting tough in endowment mis-selling. A number of ambulance chasers' web sites refused to take on cases where IFAs had sold the policy - the reason being that IFAs put up too much of a fight: it wasn't worded that way, but it's what they meant.

Insurers telling doctors how to identify whiplash? Get real: can you see any doctor willing to take that?

Telematics reducing claims? I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I can't see I would change my driving style simply because of some gizmo in the car.

Making the ambulance chasers work harder for their money will help, as will stopping them breaking the law by sending all these "Records show...." SMSs to people who haven't opted in (me included).
