Brokers and underwriting agencies using Sectornet remote IT systems will be better protected from computing disasters after the company launched a new disaster recovery scheme.

Launched today, the scheme means a complete set of systems and servers are installed at a separate location in Newbury, ready to be activated incase of a disruption to the main Sectornet offices. Services could them be resumed within hours, the company claims.

The disaster scheme was launched in response to FSA regulation. CP174 states that firms will be expected to have appropriate provisions in place to ensure they can continue to function in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Increased fear of a disasters destroying the Sectornet offices, wiping out the records of insurance companies who use their services, has also prompted the move according to the firm.

More than 80% of Sectornet users have signed up to the scheme, particularly aware of the problems of relying on insurance claims in the event of a loss of computing services.
