Risk managers will discuss the implications for Britain's public services of the growing use of electronic communication later this month.

Risk managers from the North-East of England will be urged to consider the potential risks that an increasingly IT focused environment can bring.

The seminar is part of the annual programme of training events organised by ALARM - The National Forum for Risk Management in the Public Sector.

The organisers plan to warn delegates of the risks involved with e-government change programmes.

Marsh Risk Consulting managing consultant Sarah Brocklebank said: "Local authorities have a huge challenge in getting all their services available electronically by the end of 2005 and I hope to discuss the different ways that they could successfully achieve this.

"The majority of risks that people consider are insurable risks, but these are just the tip of the iceberg - it is all the non-insurable, underlying issues that we need to watch out for.

"Risk managers are often not directly involved in the e-government debate, but they too could have a significant contribution to the whole change programme. Risk management skills are very relevant when tackling this issue."

The seminar takes place on 27 September at the Samsung Business Park in Wynard, Cleveland.
