CGU chief executive Bob Scott cut short his presentation on the insurance company's interim results on Wednesday, to allow the assembled ladies and gentlemen of the press to watch the eclipse.
Nervous shuffling of bottoms on seats reached a peak at about 11am as the skies began to darken.
Scott correctly judged the reporters' mood as questions dried up and he ended the event by 11.10am.
The room soon emptied as the hacks dashed outside. But if they had only lingered longer they would have got a better view of the eclipse from the window of CGU's conference room, 22 floors up.
