The Human Genetics Commission will launch a major public consultation about the future use of genetic information on November 27 at the Centre for Life in Newcastle.

The commission is inviting people from Newcastle and further afield to pose and discuss questions including:

  • how different and special is genetic information compared to other types?
  • does it need special protection?
  • should members of your family be told details of your genetic make up?
  • who do you think should be entrusted with your genetic information so that confidentiality can be maintained and while information is readily accessible for long-term healthcare planning?

For more information about the Human Genetics Commission, visit the website at hgc.gov.uk.
