Nottingham couple Fiona and Mike Thornewill are star trekkers after reaching the North Pole following a 56-day hike.

The Thornewills are the first married couple to reach both poles, having become the first to walk to the South Pole at the beginning of last year.

The Thornewills set off from Cape Columbia in northern Canada on March 2. Melting ice forced the couple to add a 120-mile detour to the 500-mile trip.

Disaster recovery company Rainbow International was one of the sponsors.
