Insurers will not be overjoyed to see the results of a survey by Royal & SunAlliance revealing the UK to be a nation of liars.

Forty five per cent said they would lie to their boss, while 43% would tell porkies to a neighbour, and 41% were prepared to tell untruths to friends.

Meanwhile, nearly one in five said they would lie on an insurance claim, with men twice as likely as women (26% compared to 13%) to falsify a claim.

The survey didn’t reveal the proportion of people prepared to lie to pollsters.
