Lloyd's of London has strengthened its links with the US market following the signing this week of an agreement with the New York-based Insurance Services Office.

The deal will allow individual Lloyd's underwriters to use ISO's web-based system to access a host of insurance information services and offer primary insurance and reinsurance in the US.

Julian James, managing director of Lloyd's North America, said: "This strategic agreement underlines our commitment to the US market and enables us to further develop our role within it."

Underwriters and brokers will also be able to use the full range of ISO policy wordings, aimed at making the writing of policies easier and more efficient.

They will also have access to ISO's monitoring of insurance-related issues generally.

A third of Lloyd's business emanates from the US, with a premium income of over $4bn a year, mainly in the commercial lines field.
