Insurers remained resolutely good humoured as brokers circulated a spoof quiz about an insurance giant, supposedly in aid of Children in Need but entitled: "How well do you know your insurer?"

The quiz intimates that insurers are slow to respond to broker and customer queries, with questions such as "How much time have you spent on the insurer voicemail system this year (to the nearest week)?" and "How long does it take an insurer to respond to a letter of complaint (to the nearest month)?". It finishes with: "Winners will be notified in accordance with insurers' handling procedures, so we hope to let you know by the end of February."

The northern broker who forwarded the fax to Insurance Times said it had been received by a number of people within the insurance industry.

He said the survey may have been tongue-in-cheek but was based on fact.
