Rumours persist that Cox has not seen the last of Peter Wood (pictured right).
Sources close to the man who created Direct Line say that Wood has never failed to get what he wants in a deal and that it would be a surprise if he started changing tack now.
The sources added that the management buyout, lead by Cox Retail chief executive Neil Utley, could be revived in the spring.
