Xchanging has launched a DBCS version of Genius, its internet-enabled general lines insurance underwriting system, in Japan and China.

Creating a system for the Japanese and Chinese markets caused specific problems for the company, it said.

The language system of China and Japan uses twice as much memory on the system than Western languages and is considered by the company as “double-byte” languages, it said.

The company said storing characters in two bytes rather than one had considerable implications for the redesign of Genius.

However, Xchanging said the advantage the new system is that it can support the English language as well as Japanese or Chinese.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
