Xchanging has signed a five-year contract with Axis Capital's US subsidiary Axis Specialty.

The deal is to assist with the continuing design and operation of the insurance back-office in the US.

Axis Capital uses Iris, the international reinsurance and insurance application system from Xchanging, in addition to bespoke software developed by Axis.

John Charman, chief executive and president of Axis Capital, said: “A cornerstone of our Axis business model is the creation of a modern, efficient and professional back-office operation that does not overwhelm us with excessive infrastructure, people and cost.

"We have unravelled that problem by partnering with Xchanging, which we have worked closely with to design and now run a modern high technology back-office operation.

"Importantly, my underwriters can now focus entirely on business strategy and execution."

He added: “We have ambitious plans to become a major underwriting force in the US as well as extending our already strong international reach. Partnering with Xchanging allows us to achieve these goals much more rapidly."
